Bill is a very successful river angler, especially with dry fly. The patterns below have caught fish consistantly over the years.

Hook - Kamasan - B - 170 size 14 or 16
Tail - Red game cock hackle fibres
Body - Glo Brite floss shade 4
Rib - Gold or silver fine wire
Wings - Grey mallard
Hackle - Red game cock
The Wee Rid Filla was originally tied with red thread body and silver rib, which still also works fine. The Glo Brite exagerates the effect, and the effect is the change of light at sunset. This fly works best as darkness falls after a hot day. As the tempreature drops, olives hatch, yes hatch - forget all that spinner nonsense!

Hook - Partridge 15BN Klinkhammer size 18 or 20
Body - Glo Brite floss shade 4
Rib - Fine gold or silver wire
Wing post - Orvis dun parapost
Hackle - Red game cock
Never been tried before, but no reason to think it will not be as successful as its counterpart. White parapost might be easier to see as darkness falls.

Hook - Kamasan B - 170 size 14
Tail - Florescent yellow cock hackle fibres
Body - Fluff from hackle stem, dubbed (yellow)
Rib - Florescent yellow thread (optional)
Hackle - Florescent yellow cock
Wings - Dyed yellow deer hair
This is one version of the Yellow May. Successful on the Tweed and Tummel at the right time of year - June!

Hook - Partridge 15BN Klinkhammer size 18 or 20
Body - Olive Waspi superfine dubbing SF0089
Wing post - Orvis dun parapost
Hackle - Olive cock
A standard pattern to use when olives are on the water, remember not to gink the body.

Hook - Kamasan B - 170 size 18
Tails - Blue dun cock fibres
Body - Yellow thread
Hackle - Blue dun cock or grizzle cock
Wings - Mallard
Tie with either a grizzle or light blue dun hackle, both are equally effective. A great Clyde fly after the spring months have passed.

Hook - Kamasan B - 170 size 12
Tail - Coq de Lil
Body - Waspi superfine dubbing SF0089 olive
Wing - Orvis dun parapost
Hackle - Red game and olive cock
The perfect early season dry fly. Works on my local river the Annick and the bigger rivers alike.

Hook - Partridge 15BN Klinkhammer size 18
Body - Waspi superfine dubbing SF0089 olive
Wing post - Orvis dun parapost
Hackle - Red game and olive cock
This photo was taken minutes after this fly had fooled four brownies at the River Tweed in April.

Hook - Kamasan B - 170 size 10 / 12
Body - Yellow thread
Hackle - Grizzle cock, palmered then clipped underneath
Current Scottish Rivers Team manager Franz Grimley visited the club several years ago and introduced us to this brilliantly simple fly. The secret of its success is the segmented affect the hackle makes when trimmed.

Hook - Partridge 15bn Klink size 18
Body - Waspi superfine rusty brown dubbing ribbed with fine gold wire
Wing post - Orvis para post - Dun
Hackle - Grizzle cock tied parachute
This is a tremendous all rounder. It provoked some debate at a club fly tying demonstration as to whether it is taken as an olive or a sedge. The answer is probably both.

Hook - Kamasan B - 170 size 10
Thread - Black
Tail - Coc de leon fibres
Body - Hares ear ribbed with fine gold wire
Hackles - Dark olive grizzle cock with two well marked partridge hackles tied together
This fly is particularly effective on both the Tweed and the Tummel. It is very important to keep the materials you use to tie this fly as dark as possible. Aviod red game hackles and only use dark hares ear for the body.
